Nazlı Target Funda

Nazlı’s arrival in Not a Stranger initially seems almost accidental. She becomes useful to Funda, bonds naturally with Mavi and gradually finds a place inside a household that desperately needs stability. By the end of Season 1, however, it becomes clear that Nazlı’s investment in the family is far more personal than Funda ever realized.

The finale finally allows Nazlı to explain herself when Kemal uncovers her past and confronts her. Her motive is not simply jealousy, nor is she interested only in İlker. Nazlı has convinced herself that Funda is living a version of the life that should have belonged to her, with İlker, Mavi and the family home becoming symbols of everything she believes she lost.

What Happened Between Nazlı and İlker?

Nazlı knew İlker before she became part of Funda’s life. When Funda questions İlker about her in Episode 1, he admits that he and Nazlı had a one-night encounter in the past, but he insists there was never a relationship and treats what happened between them as something brief that ended long ago.

Nazlı clearly does not attach the same meaning to it. The finale confirms how important that difference is when she tells Kemal that she was there before Funda and behaves as though being part of İlker’s life first gives her a claim on the future he eventually built with someone else.

Nothing in the series suggests that İlker ever promised Nazlı marriage or a future together. Nazlı’s belief that the family should have been hers therefore comes from the meaning she assigned to their past rather than from a mutual plan between them.

Was Nazlı’s Lost Baby İlker’s?

The series does not confirm that İlker was the father of Nazlı’s lost pregnancy. Kemal learns from Nazlı’s former workplace that she had previously been pregnant and later lost the pregnancy following an accident, but the revelation never identifies the father.

That distinction matters because Nazlı’s history with İlker and her lost pregnancy are presented as separate pieces of her past. It would therefore go beyond what the show establishes to claim that the pregnancy resulted from their earlier encounter.

What the pregnancy does help explain is why Nazlı’s attachment to Mavi becomes so emotionally powerful. After losing the possibility of becoming a mother at that stage of her life, she later enters a household where she is trusted with a young child and quickly becomes essential to her everyday care.

Why Is Nazlı So Attached to Mavi?

Nazlı’s feelings toward Mavi appear genuine even after the rest of her deception is exposed. When Kemal questions whether she ever deliberately interfered with Mavi’s wellbeing, Nazlı firmly denies it and insists that she loves the child and would do anything for her.

The problem is what Mavi has come to represent in Nazlı’s mind. She is not simply fond of the child she has been caring for, because spending time with Mavi allows her to inhabit the maternal role she feels she was denied while being inside İlker’s home keeps her close to the man she knew before Funda.

Those two attachments gradually merge into a single belief that this is the family she should have had. Mavi therefore becomes part of Nazlı’s imagined future rather than simply a child she has grown close to through her work.

Why Did Nazlı Want Funda Out of the Way?

Funda occupies the position Nazlı believes should belong to her. During her confrontation with Kemal, Nazlı finally stops pretending that her role in the household is merely professional and describes the life surrounding İlker and Mavi as something she believes should have been hers.

That explains why Nazlı does not openly compete with Funda. Instead, she makes herself increasingly necessary while Funda becomes more uncertain of herself, creating a situation in which Nazlı can move closer to Mavi and İlker while appearing to be nothing more than the person helping the family through a difficult period.

Nazlı prepares drinks for Funda around several episodes in which Funda later experiences confusion, physical discomfort and gaps in her memory. By the finale, Kemal connects those incidents and realizes that Funda’s apparent decline was being worsened from inside her own home.

What Happened to Nazlı at the Hospital?

Nazlı’s former nursing career provides another important clue to her behavior. She had reportedly been respected by people she worked with, but her career changed after an incident involving a baby in her care.

Kemal learns that Nazlı gave the child too much sedating medication while attempting to provide comfort, resulting in a serious medical emergency. Nazlı was later dismissed from the hospital, although she continues to describe her actions as an attempt to ease the child’s suffering rather than something done with harmful intent.

The scene is important because it shows how Nazlı justifies crossing boundaries. She can make dangerous decisions while convincing herself that her feelings and intentions make those choices understandable.

The same logic appears in the way she talks about Funda’s family. Nazlı does not see herself as taking something that belongs to another person because she believes she is reclaiming something that should always have been hers.

Why Does Nazlı Think She Deserves the Family?

Nazlı’s final confession gives the clearest answer to her behavior. She tells Kemal that she was there first and describes İlker’s household as her family and her happiness, while her closing narration reinforces the idea that she believes she has somehow earned her place there.

From Nazlı’s perspective, her sacrifices and losses have become proof that she is entitled to happiness now. She does not see Funda simply as an innocent woman whose family she has entered, but as the person who ended up with the future Nazlı believes life owed her.

That is why her motive goes beyond romantic jealousy. İlker is part of it, but so are Mavi, motherhood, domestic stability and the sense of belonging Nazlı has spent years trying to recover.

Does Nazlı Get What She Wants?

Nazlı does not completely get what she wants by the end of Season 1, although she is closer to it than before. Funda enters treatment and spends six weeks away from home, while Nazlı remains involved in Mavi’s life and continues occupying the space Funda has temporarily left behind.

The situation changes when Kemal discovers the truth, but Nazlı quickly recognizes his vulnerability. She knows that he still cares deeply for Funda and suggests that patience could eventually bring Funda back to him, just as patience has seemingly brought Nazlı closer to the family life she wanted.

Kemal never clearly agrees to help her, but the season also ends before he exposes her to Funda or İlker. Nazlı therefore remains in a precarious but powerful position, while Funda’s recovery creates the possibility that her carefully constructed place inside the household may eventually begin to unravel.
